Ishinryu Summer Open 2008 Results

The 11th May saw the annual Ishinryu Summer Open competition at Hornchurch Sports Centre. The competition has now firmly established itself after successfully running for many years and is an eagerly awaited event.

The good weather did not keep the crowds away with almost 150 competitors in attendance.

Upminster Ishinryu set their stall out early taking 8 Golds, 6 Silvers and 16 Bronze medals in the first half of the competition alone. After a break for lunch the second half of the day commenced with the Kumite where we increased the medal haul with another 3 Golds, 4 silvers and 8 Bronze medals. This took the total number of medals to an impressive 45.

I think this is a phenomenal achievement from just 27 entrants and once again demonstrates the versatility and diversity of talent that we have at the club. This was enough to make us "Club of the day", comfortably ahead of our nearest rivals.

Overall the competition ran very smoothly and finished ahead of schedule. This was largely down to the amount of help provided by the seniors in every area from controlling the door, refereeing, judging, table officials, collecting and setting out the mats to running the control table. We had the largest presence accounting for 90% of the support needed to ensure the day ran as smoothly as it did.
